Past, present & future

by Laura   Jul 30, 2006

I don't know how you do it,
& I don't quite understand,
how you can act so simple,
when you talk about this man.
You say he's a nice fellow,
& he's very sweet & kind,
but the stories I have heard,
keep replaying inside my mind.
You tell me of your past,
& everything you've been through,
it really makes me think about,
the person deep down inside you.
Your future may be blurry,
& your past full of sorrow,
but I promise I'll try to stop the rain,
& put the sun in your tomorrow.
I might not always know,
exactly what to say,
but you can bet I'll listen,
any place or time of day.
The other night you talked to me,
& I mean you really let it out,
that night I discovered truly,
what your life was & is about.
With every word you spoke,
the more I felt your fear,
as you continued talking,
without noticing, I was rubbing away tears.
I don't want this life for you,
I want so badly for it to change,
& if that means going back to New York,
then I want you on the next plane.
I would miss you terribly,
but I can't stand you in this pain,
I'd still talk to you on the phone,
& I have your picture in this frame.
I know you say your weak,
but girl you are really very wrong,
I have never met anyone,
quite as amazingly strong.
The future is a scary thing,
but I promise I'll be there,
& if you ever need it,
my arms are always prepared.

Man Laur, this reminds me of my sister so much. Well not as of now, but a couple years back, we atually call each other Sunshine because we both brought so much needed light into each others lives. I could relate to each and every line it was amazing..your rhymes weren't forced at all and it made the poem amazing! Great job!!
