Queen of inscrutability

by Lenny   Jul 31, 2006

A smile that brings nought,
No sun, no cheery song,
On a face that hides in shadows,
Muted features, gaunt and long,
Eyes of dullest greys,
And skins the palest tones,
Our unadorned debutante,
Consumed in her unknowns,
Not attractive, not unsightly,
Not a bother, nor a bore,
Queen of inscrutability,
Miss sinks-into-the-floor,
No suitors, no accosting,
Never shines, but never fails,
Vague in her austerity,
She parades her many veils,
Melded into society,
Never questioned, nor ignored,
Just a simple, quiet person,
Unseen and unexplored. . .
