Lets play rummy

by Sunnydays   Aug 1, 2006

I close my eyes and see your smiling face
"lets play rummy" i hear you say
I sit beside you
not aware this will be our last game
laughter fills the air,
always at the expense of grandpa
sitting on the floor watching you knit
wondering if stairway to heaven will ever end
Jr. high Begins
Milk duds and brownies
"you have the coolest granny" all the kids said
Everyone loves you
Im told to lie
why weren't you at work?
Everyone is concerned
sitting by your bed
I open my eyes
were still here, in this hospital room
praying this is all a bad dream
I watch you take your last breath
six years later
I close my eyes
i see you sitting at the table
ready for one more game.
"lets play rummy" i say
