My Little Niece

Tears covering her cheeks,
& her eyes bloodshot.
She walked to the window,
& sat there.
The house was silent for hours,
until I touched her hand.
She looked at me,
with those sad blue eyes.
My little girl,
growing so fast.
The beauty of her face,
& the laugh angels envy.
My little niece,
running around saying Auntie.
Searching the closet for me,
but I hug her from behind.
She smiles that gorgeous little smile,
& giggles.
She grabbed my hand to go outside,
as I open the door.
I watch her slowly walk down the stairs,
& I smile.
My little friend,
growing taller.
Not saying too much,
but a few words.
Waking me up,
to lay on my stomach.
As I grab her blanket,
& lay her down.
I watch her gently close her eyes,
& the most remarkable feeling hits me.
Sleep well,
my little niece.
As for your Auntie,
I'll be waiting for you to awaken from your slumber.
