Footprints

by rachel   Aug 5, 2006

I never laughed at your pain,
I kept a somber face.
I never mocked you when your hopes were slain.
I never made you feel out of place.
I know how it feels
to feel so low.
Living a life of broken deals,
it hurts more than anyone can know.
I've seen you cry,
I've seen you happy,
Seen you when you felt you could fly,
Seen you when you knew your destiny.

I've held you close in my arms.
I've loved you.
I've tried to keep you safe from harms.
I've done the best I can do.
It's time to take matters into your own hands
because I can't live your life for you anymore.
Time for only one set of footprints in the sand.
On you I'm not closing the door.
I'll still be there when life gets to you.
I'm not turning my back.
I'll try and keep you from being blue,
I'll be what you lack.

Carrying your burdens is heavy.
I can't do this...
I need some time for me.
I can't grant your every wish.
I'll still care
but I must be selfish once in awhile.
My heart I'll still share
but I just need to smile.
But when you're weary
I'll be there for you.
When you need me
I'll show you the right thing to do.
