Goodbyes

Up till now you have been my best friend
I thought it would last till the very end
but apparently i was very wrong
we have been apart for way to long

it grows more awkward as we talk
the thought of you now makes me balk
there is another that has taken your place
it was done without such haste

why oh why have i shut you out
you have filled me with such doubt
i always forget everything you say
this situation grows worse everyday

now as you struggle not to cling
you feel like a bird with a slipped wing
when i had troubles you were there
you listened as i laid my heart bare

i guess now i will have to try
to let go and to say goodbye
our friendship now is a thing from the past
and i will slowly learn to let go at last
