Stage Fright

by Ashleigh Skye   Aug 11, 2006

Always in the shadows,
attempting to avoid the spotlight's glare,
hiding behind the curtain,
hoping everyone forgets I'm there.

Determined to avoid the eyes,
that judge my every word,
the critics in the crowd,
never seen but always heard.

A little push from the director,
suddenly I'm center stage,
rambling off each scripted line,
my body becomes disengaged.

Each line and step recorded,
each interaction nothing new,
no surprises left to be found,
as the critics write their review.

As the curtain falls,
the crowd's reaction is unknown,
I proceed back toward the shadows,
my home away from home.

I don't believe that you need to look deeper to understand this poem fully, I could. It's about the followers in life, and how they believe that hidding from the world, from the spotlight, is better, is safe. These people show the world only what it want to see, and tell it only what it want's to hear. Everything become predictible.

Great read, and as a thespian I love the metaphor.

Amazing, truthfully its like that for alot of people. what i interpretated( which may not be true ) is that you are saying that you cant be afraid and you have to do it or dont, and when you do everything feels right
