A letter of confusion
Written in a journal one day
The writer, it seems, had lost herself
And couldn't find her way.

She couldn't stand the popular;
So full of hidden trials.
She hated the conformity,
the too loud laughter and too many fake smiles

But when she stuck to what she enjoyed
The few friends who knew real love
She was marked when she walked down the halls
Too often she was made fun of.

She chose between
Liked by everyone but not her friends,
Or liked by her friends and hated by everyone
She made her choice, and afterwards
Saw that it should've been an easy one.

A happier conclusion
Written in the song her joy would sing
She understood that she was different
And that it's really not a bad thing.

She understood they didn't like it
(The girl she chose to be)
Because she was full of purity
And that what they can't see.

Often they tried to bring her down
And often they succeeded.
But she had her friends to pick her up
And that strength is what she needed.

She chose a road and followed
Not knowing what would come
And she wrote out her confusion
When not understanding what she'd done.

But now she has that purity
Of one who's come so far.
And she shares the eyes and real smile
With those who know who they are.
