Why?

Its not been long, but so far away
are the times without this pain
Bound as one deep in my heart
Twin burdens: Regret and Shame

Regret for things I should have done
but then let slip on by
Shame for that I knew was wrong
as I carried on my life

I want to let go of these
to lighten my heavy heart
But every day I grasp them more
Unwilling to make a start

Perhaps some day far down the road
When life just passes by
I'll answer the hardest question of all
Not Where? or What?
