Leaving you behind

by Hanna   Aug 16, 2006

I look back at the place where i once use to be,
each segment and memory is a part of me;
searching and listening for something familiar to hear,
looking for something that is no longer there;
my presence, my time have all disappeared,
not feeling this is what i had feared;
with my memories, i hang on and let go,
going towards and moving on to the future though;
but i still remember what is all past,
remembering and forgetting like a flag in half mast;
she looked down at me frowning, "what are you here for?",
i looked up and answered "i spent five years here before";
darkened by the storm, worn over the years;
her bricks lost their colour, her windows shattered in my ears;
she laughs and crumbles as her pillars hold her together;
her structure is cold and she is worn by the weather;
i walk closely towards her, standing near;
she whispers "go back, there is nothing of you here";

*when you go back to a place that you spent a great deal amount of time in (i.e. a house, or a flat with lots of your memories), if you ever go back to see that place there is this emptiness similar to the emotion given out by this poem.
