Sweet children of our future

by broken reflection   Aug 31, 2006

Sweet essence of children's tears,
That has been collected over these years,
A child's heart can break to,
A child's thought,
So innocent, so true;
Light they bring in dark places,
Bonds they bring between people,
Constantly leaving traces...
They are children.
A child so bare and vulnerable,
A child trusting everything,
A child's sweet voice sings,
A child's powers can't be fable...
They don't know how much they affect us,
They don't feel the joy they bring us,
They only be themselves,
And in doing so, they save our souls...
As this dying earth takes its toll,
It's their future,
It's their choice,
Only their voice,
Can save it,
Only their actions,
Can kill it,
A life of their own,
A life of sweet children,
The way they affect us they'll never know,
Sweet essence of children's tears...
Feeds our earth,
For the next million years.

I like it! It has a meaning that isn't selfish. It tells of other's suffering instead of just your own. These ar e perhaps my favorite type of poem.

    Good poem.

    The line
"They only be themselves," sounded a little pirate-ish to me. But that might just be me.

Other than that the whole poem was very good. I love the feeling you captured. It was genius. I've never read a poem on this topic, and I'm sure if I ever do read another it won't be as good. Great job.
