Behind Bars

by BrokenMisery   Aug 31, 2006

Clothed in overflowing pinstripes,
Black and white jailbird
With a concocted smile
That's just a little absurd

Chained down by wire wings,
White blush to hide black cheeks
No innocence in the prayer
That has been mimed for weeks

A distorted skull and crossbones
Sewn into strands of hair,
Pretty as a dead flower
With a heart ripped bare

Little girl, fork-tongued beast
A raven perched on each word,
With a concocted smile
Stands the black and white jailbird.

There are several ways to interpret your poem. I chose to interpret as describing humanity's deceitfulness. The prayer absent of innocence isn't just used by prisoners. Practice makes perfect, right? I overanalyze things way too often. It's an exceptional poem.

You speak of my grasp on the english language often enough, and I don't wish to return a seemingly unjust compliment by mine returned sounding so alike.

So I will not only return the compliment of superb vocabulary, I will also say that your excellent prose are most enjoyable!

But more to the present, this poem was delightful for its depth and, need I say it it, prose ;)
