Sleep is for the dead

by C G Turner   Sep 3, 2006

Another late night awake.
Spent counting flashes of
light like a blind snake.
Sleep is for the dead.

This life is like a race.
People always competing,
trying to be your ace.
Sleep is for the dead.

I cannot seem to keep up.
Always been second best,
ever since I was a pup.
Sleep is for the dead.

Friends hard to come by.
I always get laughed at,
and I don't know why.
Sleep is for the dead.

Can't allow myself to trust.
I always seem to get hurt
by what I feel is a must.
Sleep is for the dead.

I feel like I am a loser.
I never seem to get it right,
maybe I am just a user.
Sleep is for the dead.

And now I feel dead, too.
As I look down the barrel
of my dad's twenty two.
Sleep is for the dead.
