Jasmine

by Mishel   Sep 5, 2006

He walked down the lonely streets
Missing her so much he couldn't breathe
The tears never seemed to stop falling
And his heart never seemed to stop aching
There was a light breeze that touched his face
And he swore it felt like her hand
He sighed and kept on walking
Until he thought he heard her voice
He could have sworn she was calling his name
But that couldn't be possible
He waited a few minutes
That seemed to last forever
He didn't hear it again
"You're losing it,"
He said to himself
As he continued to walk
His thoughts returned to her
And the familiar pain awoke in his heart
He closed his eyes
As the wind picked up
And wrapped it's arms around him
He smiled a little
Imagining it was her
And the pain seemed to lessen
But he stopped dead in his tracks
As he caught the scent of something so familiar
That it brought tears to his eyes
He breathed in the scent of jasmine
As he looked around for her
He didn't want to call her name
For fear he was going crazy
But then he saw her
And time seemed to stand still
She looked so beautiful
More so then he remembered
And when she smiled at him
All the pain in him seemed to disappear
She opened her arms
As he ran towards her
He almost knocked her over when he reached her
He held her so tight
He was afraid she couldn't breathe
But he heard her laugh
And he knew she didn't mind
He breathed her in
Wanting to always remember how she smelled
"I've missed you so much,"
He said as he cried in her arms
And he heard her whisper
"I know my love.
That's why I've come back for you."
He never heard the car coming
And he didn't remember feeling any pain
He just woke up on the ground
And watched the woman that was driving call the police
She could hardly talk because she was crying so hard
And he felt bad
His love walked over and touched her shoulder
As he touched the other one
He knew she'd be okay
As her tears began to stop falling
The woman smelled jasmine
And was surprised at the scent
She continued to tell the police what happened
As the smell somehow comforted her
She held the boy tightly in her arms
Trying to give him some comfort
He got up from the ground
And his love took his hand
He felt a tear slide down his face
As he stood in front of her
She wiped it away with a few in her eyes
And smiled at him
The smell of jasmine stayed with the woman
As they walked away
And as the ambulance left with the boy
It started to rain
And the woman cried
Rain and jasmine
How those scents affected her
She remembered standing in front of her husband's grave
With the jasmine in her hands
And when it began to rain that day
She knew her husband was there with her
Just like she knew the boy had found peace tonight
