The Wait of Shadows

by january friend   Sep 6, 2006

Hooded figures of shadow and fog
float over the misty water
Black trees draped with moss
loom in the distance
A cloaked man sits in a boat
lantern in hand
looking over the water
As he picks up a paddle
the shadows draw nearer
and grow more intense
Whispers are heard
They come from the shadows
The breeze stops
All is quiet
They enclose around the man
The paddle slides into the water
sending ripples outward
The empty boat begins to float away
And another candle is lit and the waters edge
The shadows return to the trees
And wait for another
...another candle...
