Fitting in

by Katie   Sep 8, 2006

What must it be like to fit in?
To be just like them?
To be able to get on with them,
To be one of them.

Always the one that sits alone,
On the outside edge of the circle,
Forever watching from the back,
Desperate to be like them.

Hearing the whispers but never the story,
Hearing the laughter but never the joke,
Seeing the smirks but never hearing the comment,
Being shut out just 'cos you're not one of them.

All I ever wanted was to fit,
To be just like them,
To get on with them,
To be one of them.

But THEY cause pain and hurt,
self- doubt, self loathe and hate,
THEY make you something you're not,
THEY bring you down.

But .....

If being like them does that,
Maybe I'm better off being me,
Looking from the outside in,
Real, special, unique, happy ...

Me xx

Well, with a heart that spills onto the page with such beauty, then you are indeed real, special, and unique. I hope that you can be happy. Very emotionally written. Well done. xx
