Little Girl Lost

by Angie   Sep 10, 2006

Little Girl Lost

a beautiful aura
radiates from within
others drawn to her
for the comfort she emits

unaware that this precious face
wears a painted on smile
they still look to her
for help with their sorrows

but her once crystal blue eyes
now glaze over with pain
her loving carefree spirit
broken, tainted with sin

she hides among the shadows
waiting for her soul to heal
little girl lost
drew up her shield

This is a poem that kind of describes how I feel a lot. It shows the bravery of the mask which this character has put on for other people's benefit. This can work for a while, it often does, but eventually it comes down and you can't keep it up any longer.

It is true when you see the quotes about people who smile and care for others are often hiding the darkest pain in their eyes.

your title is so touching itself - and makes this poem even sadder, it build up so much empathy and makes the reader really connect to the character and want to comfort them.

I think the last stanza is a very powerful way to end, with he shield of protection so she cannot be hurt, yet she hints at the past pain she still has in her soul which has not healed. This makes me wonder what she has been through, what she is hiding, and how she can begin to let some of it go, in order to heal.

    Touching write. xx

Wow, this piece is so touching. I can relate to it. You wrote it greatly, every stanza has heartbreaking imagery and excellently described emotions. Whole piece has stunning atmosphere yet it's filled with sadness.
    My favorite stanza is:
    -a beautiful aura
    radiates from within
    others drawn to her
    for the comfort she emits

The wording in the poem is also excellent.

Aside from the "little girl lost" part I can really empathize with this piece. It is very emotional all the way through.

How true it is that we are drawn to certain people who radiate that certain glow and yet do we take the time to see what lies behind the smile. Is there some hidden pain that we may help with.
