Let come what it may

by Timothy   Sep 11, 2006

1st verse:
You're saying to me she thought it was hopeless,
There was no one left to hold, no closeness;
Grown kids that had moved away,
And an email was too great a price to pay.

Where was the husband of thirty years?
The paterfamilias had a duty to wipe away those tears;
You say cheating was his lot, and she finally learned her role in that game,
A bullet to the head released her from her life's shame.

Chorus:
There ain't nothing we can do about yesterday,
It's gone forever, baby;
All we can do is look forward to another day,
And let come what it may.

The sun doesn't always shine; the wind doesn't always blow,
The future isn't something that we are supposed to know;
The heart isn't guaranteed; it might fall into disarray,
All we can do is let come what it may.

2nd verse:
You're telling me, all he had was his work,
And a lifetime of bad habits he couldn't shirk;
Heroin was his friend---along with women of the night;
He soared to unattainable, imagined heights.

Where were his parents, when his choices led down this path?
There had to have been clues, if they had taken the time to do the math;
At thirty, he finally hit rock bottom...looking in the mirror,
He slashed his wrists in one final act of desperate fear.

Repeat chorus:
There ain't nothing we can do about yesterday,
It's gone forever, baby;
All we can do is look forward to another day,
And let come what it may.

The sun doesn't always shine; the wind doesn't always blow,
The future isn't something we are supposed to know;
The heart isn't guaranteed; it might fall to disarray,
All we can do is let come what it may.

Extended chorus:
Let come what it may,
Let come what it may,
Each and every day, hold a strong voice and say:
"Let come what it may".
