Our Mother (slam)

"Our Mother"

My brother, my sister, they couldn't comprehend
the day my father walked in and I knew right then
I would be the big man
a new life just began
from the heavens above
god help me show love
for we are alone
in a home all our own;

so i sit back and pray
god whys it this way
you never answer
you're like a cancer
feed off my energy
your thoughts completely consume me
drive me
teach me
show me;

but it's men like my father
who show me how to make
a life crumble
debris
down to the ground
creating smoke
a haze
now this daze
consumes me up
swallow me whole
and now I see the new goal;

teach my siblings
show them somethings
on how to live
rise above the adversity
how to get over
the loss of a mother
I'll be like no other
mother they've ever had
but it's all too sad;

my father, took our mother from us
and it's something I had to discuss
with you today
to get it out the way
so I could forget
live
and let him regret
the love he took from
my siblings, so let him succumb
to the guilt god give
we start over and live
and we don't know
how all this will go
but in the end I do know
a man like my father's what I won't become
thinking about it makes my head numb;

so I'll leave you now
and I hope your brain will allow
you to see the unjust
how my father could not trust
anybody in his life
our mother, his own wife
