Losing Faith

Her pain developed into a habit,
she got joy off of cuts.
Her life dream to die before sixteen,
as she covered her arms.
Getting high become a must,
peer pressure killed her soul.
She had a bigger dream once,
but somehow lost it inside.
Her eyes always so bloodshot,
and as her best friend I told her I've given up on trying to save her.
I watched her fade from my best friend,
to another suicidal character.
As the lights of her time to go,
faded.
I turned her over to mental institution,
she stopped talking after that.
But one night I got a call,
many years later.
She was being released,
I hoped that would be a good thing.
Two days after she returned home,
she found her razor.
She killed herself that night,
and all that was left was a letter saying: Please thank my best friend for turning her back on me, she needed to get away from me. She tried to save me so many times, but I kept falling. I thank her for putting me in that place, but the thoughts of suicide came before the cuts and drugs. It came from losing the one thing I truly held close. It was from losing faith in myself. I'm sorry it had to end this way, and I love you all.
As silver tears run down my cheek,
I was overjoyed she thanked me.
But faith was something I couldn't get her to have,
even though she did once.
