A Daddy's Love

by Poppa   Sep 24, 2006

You came into my life so late,
When I was not at home.
I did not even know you,
But our home was now your own.

It took so long for us to share
The things in our hearts and soul.
But now that time has worked on us
I have a daughter to now cherish and to hold.

There are so many fathers
That don't know what they have.
I have a child, that was not mine,
Who looks up and calls me Dad.

There are so many memories
I don't know where to start.
All of our time we spent together
Is forever engraved upon my heart!

How proud I am of all you are
And all that you have done.
You do excel at all you try
And always make it fun.

Your asking this week to go with me
Was the best time we ever had.
I will never forget our pillow fight,
Your telling others, I'm your Dad.

All the time we spent together,
Like shopping at the malls,
And going out to the movie,
We really had a ball.

The Genghis Grill was special
With so much joy and laughter.
The beauty of your soft blue eyes,
And your smile, that I was after.

You say that I do spoil you,
But believe me, it's not true.
I only give you all my love,
My heart could give to you.

As I asked, "Do you love me this morning?"
And you answered, Oh so sweet.
"I love you every morning, Dad!"
Made my heart skip a beat.

As you move on in your own world
And go on to other places.
Just know that Poppa loves you
With a heart that always races.

To hear your softly spoken words
Or see your precious smile.
I would call, in this world, to any place
And travel a million miles.

Now life will change your path and mine
But the memories will always be.
Clearly tucked inside our hearts
For my Daughter and for me.

Oh Nekol, you will never know,
The love I have for you.
I'll hold you close unto my heart
Until my life is through!

My love is unconditional,
No matter what you do.
My love is unconditional,
It's always here for you!

I have a love above all things
And I have it, this is true.
That's what I call "A Daddy's Love"
And Daughter, it's especially for you!

Note: Dedicated to my daughter Nicole, who is 18 and moved away to college.
