The Labyrinth

by Animus   Sep 26, 2006

Lost in the Labyrinth it's cold and dark.
Strange looking torches light the way.
What gets me the most is the silence,
yet I can hear screams of pain,
cries for help, and pleas for mercy,
Yet it's silent as the grave.

Suddenly, I hear strange noises coming
from deeper in the Labyrinth.
I feel rumbling in the floor, then a deep
resonating roar.

Then I hear screams of pain,
cries for help, and pleas for mercy.
The Labyrinth is silent no more.

I shrink into a corner trying desperately to
bury myself in the solid rock walls, but it's no use.
These cold hard stones won't let me pass.

I know I have to get out.
I have to escape! But I'm lost.
Lost in a cold dark Labyrinth with
screams of pain, cries for help,
and please for mercy, resonating off the
solid stone walls that won't let me pass.

I step away from the wall, looking left,
then right, not knowing which way to go.
All I was told was to reach the middle.
but from all the screams, cries, and pleas,
I don't want to reach the middle,
but what choice do I have?

I start to walk left, then stop and head right.
I don't know which way to go. I'm hopelessly lost!
I slid down the wall with my head in my hands.
God! I hate this awful silence!

Slowly, I stand up, I've made me decision.
I walk to the left hoping and praying
this way will lead me out.

The air starts to change the deeper I go.
Instead of the air being stale,
the air smells rotten and moldy.
The stench is unbearable!
My eyes start to water from the rancid smell.

I take a right turn and come into a room.
A cavernous room.
It smells like rotting meat.

Strange looking birds roost in the crags
along the walls.
Stalactites drip ice cold water on
the skeletons of small cave creatures that
litter the floor.

As I walk among the bones, I come across
a skeleton bigger then the others, a human
skeleton. I jump back horrified.

I edge around it and continue on.
I come across more
human remains not yet stripped of their
flesh, scattered here and there.
The smell is awful!

Suddenly, I trip and fall, for
something under my foot moved.
I hear a moan.
I sit up and look back at what tripped
me and gasp!'

It's the upper torso of a boy about seventeen.
He moans again, then looks at me with bloody eyes.
He reaches out his hand toward me and whispers in a
horse, ragged voice, "Please.....help me!"

I reach out and take his hand and whisper back,
"Everything is going to be okay, I'll get you
out of here."
He gives me a relieved smile. I smile back.

Then suddenly, his smile is replaced by a
horror filled scream.
He looks fearfully over my shoulder.

I hear a low rumbling growl.
I stand up slowly.
I feel hot stinking breath on the back
of my neck.

I turn around very slowly and look
up into the face of a terrible beast.
A monster so terrible it only lives in your
nightmares.

It's at that moment that I remember the stories.
The stories of the Minetor.

A monster half man, half bull.
He grabs me viciously, lifting
me off the ground.

Suddenly, the room is filled with the same
screams of pain, cries for help, and pleas for mercy.
It takes me a moment to realize that it's me
who is now screaming, crying, and pleading.

I scream out in agony as I'm ripped apart
limb from limb.
And then, in one swift moment,
I am no more.
