You wake up from your bed
With so much to say
Everything seems great
But it\\\'s not just any day
You clearly recall that previous afternoon
In that very wondrous detention room
Every precious word that Mary-Ann said
You still can make them out in your head
You wake up fresh that very morning
The bus driver is surprised that you are early
In class you stare deep into space smiling
Your teacher wonders why you behave so weirdly
Your lunch still goes to the bullies
Though this time you seem happy to give it away
Even though they ravage your meal like grizzlies
Mary-Ann seems to be on your mind all day
Just before the bell rings for class
The gym you decide to make a quick-pass
You spot Mary-Ann practicing some complex moves
Watching her spin you feel awkwardly aloof
With her routine done you stare in admiration
It\\\'s no wonder why she\\\'s picked for the Olympic Trials last week
Catching your gaze she smiles and waves - to your heart\\\'s contention
Before leaving she winks, making your knees really weak
Out of the blue a hand reaches into yours
A note is handed over - it\\\'s her gym mate, Stacey Laws
In black marker it says,\\\"7pm, dinner,\\\" - A date
\\\"Can\\\'t wait to see you there. Don\\\'t be late!\\\"
That evening you take a good shower
Checking your watch - another half an hour
Putting on your best Sunday wear
You start combing your impossibly curly hair
Once again you check your over sized Tag Heur
Given to you by your now-deceased grandfather
You calculate: To Fabio\\\'s, it\\\'s about six minutes walk
Now its only ten to seven o\\\' clock
Satisfied, you stroll down your garden path
A crimson finch refreshing in the bird-bath
The O\\\'Connors are having cold-cuts for dinner
While theres fickle bickering between the weird Myners
Whistling to the tune of Bob Sinclair
World, Hold On\\\" is tops on air
Suddenly two strong hands locks your arm
Your merely stand rooted, extremely alarmed
Pinning you to the ground you recognise your attackers
Its two of the bullies - Hans and Frankie!
Laughing they sit on you while grinning smugly
Hans next words causes panic abruptly
\\\"We overheard your lovely appointment with Mary-Ann
And felt that she shouldn\\\'t fall into the wrong hands
So to save her from a disaster date
We set her up with J.J instead\\\"
Your jaw widens, while your stomach churns
Your forehead feels like it really burns
Struggling much to your captor\\\'s amusement
You feel so small, so helpless with resentment
The bullies hold you down till what feels like forever
Taunting, gesturing and cussing your mother
An old, gruffly voice shouts, \\\\\\\"Get away from here!\\\"
It\\\\s old man O\\\'Connor clutching a bottle of beer
The old drunkard comes lumbering over
Throwing his bottle which smashes somewhere near
The two bullies take off mocking
While you scamper off from a possible thrashing
Huffing and puffing your stop by the corner
Cold sweat drips off your cotton shirt
Somewhat you feel like a big loser
Your face now ravaged by cuts, filth and dirt
Suddenly you remember your date
Mary-Ann\\\'s gone with J.J instead!
You run like Forrest Gump through the evening bay
Silently praying that Mary-Ann hasn\\\'t met up with J.J
You finally reach Fabio\\\'s Pizza in one piece
Apart from the sound of your constant wheeze
Scouring around you scan around for her
The dinner crowd makes your view rather unclear
And then you spot her at the far side
The obvious patience that she has slowly abide
As your mind races on for a viable excuse
To your horror you see J.J coming back with juice
Mary-Ann\\\'s eyes lights up upon seeing him
In fact she seems delighted, no, even more
Your face falls flat, subdued by grim
Slowly you make your way the open door
Dragging your feet all the way home
You step on one of your Father\\\'s precious garden gnome
But your mind is in a whiz
Life seems so cursed and never one with bliss
(The next day...)
You forgot to set the alarm clock again
Sleeping through tears that flow with the night-rain
The sun peeks through your blinds with piercing rays
Yet it\\\'s just another ordinary day...
