Guiding Me

I've never been one to think things through
I jump right in without a care
Willing to give everything my all
I fail to see what's really there

I forget that if you can't swim
Then the deep end's not for you
So in I go without a vest
And drowning's all that's left to do

That's why I'm glad you're here with me
To stop me before I leap
Because it's such a long fall down
And unlike a cat, I don't land on my feet

You've spared me broken bones
And many a could be broken heart
Where would I have ended up
Without the wisdom you impart

Thank you for thinking for me
When my heart and brain were one
Ignoring everyone but you
You guided my path so undone

And now I travel a straighter line
I think clearer than before
All because you've stayed with me
Forced me to other options explore

Once again, where would I be
If you'd not wandered onto my path
I'm grateful that you came this way
And my wayward soul you didn't pass.
