Every Day Is Halloween

by Sarah Ann   Oct 2, 2006

Masks and scary faces
All blooming in the dark
Perpetual fear overcomes me as they walk
From house to house
Deceiving all who pass their way
Just as they do most everyday

Halloween.
It is no different tonight
I watch with great indifference
People go about their business
And each mask illuminates the night
Children watch and cringe in endless fright

Everyone hides. Behind layers of clothes
Behind satin and masks of gold
Alas, they do this all the time
Cunningly pure to those so blind
Tonight, there is no contrast

And for me, every day is Halloween

You have captured the essence of Halloween in this poem. Instead of putting on the mask of pretense and go about our business, we put on the mask of our darkside and go into the night. Beautifully done. I'm glad you're on our side for this challenge.
