Senior year
Everything was going right
We finally made it
The end was here
And a new beginning was in sight
Graduation night
We were there to party
And as always
Ready to say goodbye.
Summer is here
Time for the real fun
Vacations and time alone
Before all the work begins
Beaches and bathing suits
And plans that were made months in advance
Unfortunately plans go wrong
One little mistake
And everyone paid dearly
For on that day
Just two weeks and four days
After we were officially out of high school
The horror struck.
In a truck stop
In the middle of Virginia
All we get are phone calls
From people crying
They said there was an accident
And they didn’t think everyone survived
This must cruel joke
It just can’t be true.
But as the minutes passed
We learned it was true
Oh what must have gone through your heads
As your car spun in the air
I wonder what you were thinking
Before everything slipped away.
I thought of your parents
And what they must have felt
Having to call a college
To tell them you would not be there in the fall
I thought of you girlfriend
Riding right next to you.
So many people in that car
And so many mistakes were made.
Why you that died while people who kill run free?
This is the question I ask myself
As I sit and cry.
But I know that you will look after us
No matter where we go
For you are gone, but not forgotten
And that will never change.
