My Birthday Cake

by myshiningstar14   Oct 6, 2006

My friends and family
have come to see me,
Mommy tells me its my
birthday.

I don't remember there
faces, but they carried:
small boxes, large boxes,
tall boxes; boxes of plenty!

Hugs and kisses came from
all around. Daddy's pat me on
the head six times, and one
for good-luck.

We gather at the table,
my lips moisten,
my mouth grows hungry.
They set the cake before
me,
they light it, it's covered
in FROSTING.
My name was on it,
scribbled with flowers
and sprinkles.

I started for the cake,
all eyes watching.
Mom gently grabs my
hand, dad smiles; she
reassures me, I can
have a big piece when
its time.

I want my turn now,
I want the cake so bad.

Everyone surrounds me.
I watch as they look at
me, anticipating in
their minds,
my movements.
I just smile and giggle,
then Mom helps me
blow out the candles;
together we count them...
1-2-3-4-5-6!

A giant piece
like Mommy said was
set before me.
I hesitate for but a
moment;
i squeeze it,
it mingles with
my fingers.
I shove it in my face,
so it can melt in my
mouth.

The cake holds my
skin,
and I can't get
enough of my
birthday cake.

**enjoy**
