The Coffee Bug

by perkyshadowgirl   Oct 7, 2006

Reads like a story, but I thought that some people might enjoy it in it\'s poetic form :)

Inspired by Pure Silence, and her Poem "Week's Worth of Coffee..."

~~~
Addicted to coffee?
Not her
She is there every day
But she could stop if she wanted to
She just doesn't want to
It would make her tired
The man behind the counter
Brown hair turning grey
Not going anywhere with his life
Just paying the bills
Every day she smiles at him
But it's too busy to talk
You're here early today, he says
I know, she replies
Now it's not too busy to talk
But an extra shot of espresso
Would be nice
My kids threw me out, he tells her
Thought I was worn out
I was just a leech
Get a job, they said to me
And they were right
When I get enough money,
I'm going to go back
And pay of my debt to them
The early mornings nearly kill her
But she doesn't mind
He's fun to talk to
After a week of less sleep
He isn't there
I'm sorry, says the stranger who's taken his place
So hard to focus in school
The teachers are worried
There's nothing she can say
They won't understand
She barely knew him
Yet her heart is breaking
Seems the moment the bell rings
She is at his side
Please...isn't there something I can do?
He smiles at her
Looking weak, yet strong
You've done enough, he smiles
As his hand falls from hers
She slowly closes his eyes
She takes the job in the coffee shop
Someday
She will work up the money
To pay off his debt
Someday
