Memories of You

by Fighter (Ariane L.)   Oct 9, 2006

Blowing the cake's candles, I whisper your name.
I can hear you, I can see you,
Yet I know you are not standing next to me.

The cake beckons to you,
Pleading for your presence.
The night's silence envelops me,
As tears blind my vision;
Memories of you.

My screams stab the darkness,
Begging to have you back once more.
Smoke rises from the candles,
As your memory slips through my fingers;
Failing to grasp you.

The pain still lingers in my chest,
Slowly fading throughout the years
Yet refusing to completely vanish.
Memories of you.

I continue to bake you a cake,
Blowing on the candles as when I was younger.
Your memory still lingers through the autumn air.
Memories are all I have left of you.

*It would have been my grandfather's birthday today...
**my fingers had a life of their own when writing this.... confusing, yet somehow, it makes sense to me...
