The Most Amicable Break Up In History

by CaffeineBomb   Oct 10, 2006

I sought your eyes out across the crowd
Just to see if you were looking for me
You catch a glance and I claim victory
But were your eyes really looking for me?

This, the most amicable break up in history
Kept us together far longer than it should
We still share a bed although our love has long since died
And we would leave, if only we could

Sometimes we don't see each other for days
Then our vision locks across a crowded room
The same old friends and the same old parties
Both require our shared company

And so, the most insincere acts of affection
Forced upon us by loyalty to our friends
A kiss to lie that our love is still alive
And we would leave, if only we could

We watch ourselves, an act upon the stage
With no-one realising it is all pretend
Through gritted teeth we say our lines
"I will love you to the very end."

And this is the biggest lie
To reveal its truth would hurt the most lives
So we play on, each line said with a smile
But we would leave, if only we could.
