In memory

by Brandon Johnson   Oct 10, 2006

In an endless desert, far away
Marines do battle, so we can stay free
Bullets whizzing overhead, fearing for their lives
Earth shaking mortars landing by their side

One Marine hit, and he goes down
Trying to save him, but to no avail
They assure him that everything’s alright
And sit by him as he slowly dies

Three Marines were killed that day
They sacrificed their lives
So we can sit in our houses
And not worry whats to come

The Marines who made it
Will never be the same
Staring into space, reliving that day
Each time they wonder why it wasn’t them

No Marines survived that day
Only empty bodies came back
They died with their friends
Over there, in Iraq
