The Roadside Pain...

by Shruti Mittal   Oct 11, 2006

Standing at the signal,
waiting for it to change
something i saw,
something...the real pain.

I saw a child
born just a few years ago,
all darkened from top to bottom.
has anyone ever felt his woe..??

He stood 'ere,
shedding tears one after the other.
looking around in all directions,
was he lookin' for his mother..??

He collected a few coins,
left the road wiping the tears he shed,
but with a depressed face, he thought,
not enough to buy some bread.

He stood there as i saw him
naked 'lil boy in pain,
who will take care of him,
the poor left alone in the rain.

Seeing the hawker on the other side of the road
he ran to try his luck,
without looking around he kept running
and had a crash with that huge truck.

He fell as the red thing poured out
and the people gathered all around
his precious few scattered here and there
and his cries faded in that screeching sound.

This was not just the end
with the end of his life
it was the new beginning
of the pain that dwelt on the roadsides...
