Promises, Promises

Promises, Promises
Making promises you could never keep
Telling stories that you knew weren’t true
Making mistakes that couldn’t be fixed
Making me think like I really needed you

Promises, Promises
Causing me to think I was what I was not
Acting like something that you could never be
Looking me in the eyes and telling me those lies
Pretending as if you needed to be a part of me

Promises, Promises
Telling me everything that I wanted to hear
Being everything that I needed you to be
Blinding me from the only truth I’ll ever know
That you’ve never before allowed me to see

Promises, Promises
Shattering my heart into a million different pieces
Never even giving me a second chance to shine
Cutting off the beaten path to your heart forever
Promising that you would never again be mine

Promises, Promises
Casually walking back into my life once more
Acting as if you were something that I could gain
Begging and pleading for me to take you back again
After putting my through all that pain

Promises, Promises
Taking you back and acting like everything will be okay
Forgiving you for everything that you’ve ever done to me…
Just wait one moment, never mind, and forget what I said
Because what’s happening between us now…just isn’t supposed to be
