Silent changes

by Hard to Say   Oct 12, 2006

The car squeaks out of the driveway
Creating an immense fog outside
Through it are the immobile faces with sad eyes
Staring back at us
Hours of nothing but the loud bumpy road and
The dance between the trees
Once again something old and familiar was ending
New jobs are common to her
New children shrieking of joy
For the child who scored the winning goal
That is something foreign to my ears
There was nothing any longer to be protected from
What once was stolen
Would soon be ours again
Year have taken [us] worlds away
From living the life which we’ve dreamt of every night
Have taken us away to this new destination
A new place of escape
And while we knew we would be safe
We were still terrified of what was to come
