To No One

by Peter Williams   Oct 15, 2006

Do you think I like this?
That I like the frustration?
That I like the temptation?
That I like this torture?
For whatever reasons,
For whatever purpose,
I found out that I don't know a thing.

The words flow from my mouth to my hand,
To my pen,
To the paper.
It's only instinct,
It's only love.

Forget all the things I've said,
Forget all the things we've done.
We belong,
We belong.

I saw London,
I saw Paris,
I saw you,
I saw me.
Now I wish I was blind like I was before,
Now I wish I were deaf so I couldn't hear you slam that door.

My cards are on the table,
Where are yours?
Ante up,
The game isn't over.
Far from it,
And I am far away from me.

Comb your hair,
Brush your teeth.
Sing with me,
Laugh with me,
Here we go,
Now dance with me.
Feel the faces on you,
Feel the stares.
The world is ours,
Cheers to those that dares.

Storybook love,
Movie screen romance,
All are lies,
All must die.
But not ours,
For ours is true.

A fake rose never dies,
A fake love never cries.
Make this fake man turn into a real boy,
Take this soft hand and jump for joy.
Love is an analogy stuck on repeat.

Don't wait up for me,
I'm already there.
Please stop,
I can't stand your stare.
A teenage heart beats,
An adult heart flutters.

The last true love song,
The last true verse in the poem.
The last pedal on a rose,
Falls to the ground,
Love me,
Or love me not.

An ode to life,
Because life needs one.
All that exists,
Never was.
Beat heart beat,
Beat 'til it's over,
Which won't be soon enough.

Mimic that feeling and make it true,
That's the only thing I know how to do.
One day the lie will turn into a truth,
One day kissing won't longer be a booth.
That day will come,
But then again it won't.

The shadows began to dance as they clap their hands to this romance,
The ghosts begin to cry and start to fly,
The Earth spins counter-clockwise and stops,
Your watch is broken,
Get with the times.

Everything is a coincidence,
Everything is an occurrence,
Everything is a mishap gone worst.
One after another the leaves fall and I'm still here waiting for a call.
A call to arms,
A call to destiny.

The full moon swayed back and forth,
Just like she said it would.
Heartache is all in the head,
It all wastes away in my bed.

Restless eyes begin to blink at last,
Those tears on your face are just a mask.
Soar cupid soar,
Flap those wings.
I should've grabbed that apple first,
Maybe then I would be blamed.

I felt it too,
I just didn't say anything,
I never said anything.
Don't walk beside me,
I can't see you.
Don't walk behind me,
I can't hear you.
I just can't win.

So let's get dressed up and look our best,
This night won't forget that we were here.
Let's break some hearts before we mend them,
The angels are on our shoulders whispering in our ears.
Twinkle starlight twinkle,
You're so beautiful,
That's why I don't look.
I want to tell you my name and let you read me like a book.

Call the doctor,
I think I'm sick.
Flashbacks to all the good times I've had go buzzing through my skull.
I'm in too deep,
But I used to be shallow.
Here's to the skeptics,
Here's to the critics,
This ending I deserve.

It only takes one embrace,
It only takes one dream,
That dream is of us and of what we could be,
Of what we can be,
Of what we must be.
So here I am,
Sitting in the dark,
Writing a love letter...
To no one.
