Breaking a Soul

by darxtar   Oct 17, 2006

Skin used as a cover
To hide the distortions of my soul
Forced smiles accepted as payment
For the corruption I've caused
Blackened tears mean nothing
If they fall from empty eyes
An apology from the heart is useless
If the heart was withered long ago
Promises drowned out by reality
Acceptance dulls the mind
Breaking the spirit
Smothering the fire that used to burn so bright
All thought to have a choice
Turned to dust with the torment of time
The fight within the mind
Crushed by empty promises
Oaths stilling the actions
Creating excuses
And eventually acceptance
Repeating the process
Dulling the mind
Past the point of recognition
Or need to fight.
