Hero

by ALEX   Oct 17, 2006

Five is not a time for tears,
A time for death, a time for fears.
The love between a father and daughter,
Now that love is gone forever.
He's left and she has no idea why.
She's given up trying not to cry.
"Daddy was hit by a drunken driver."
She hears Mommy telling her older brother.
How could someone be so cruel?
She'll need her Daddy when she goes to school.
I guess she'll just have to deal.
But we all know she'll never heal.
And as the funeral drew to a close,
A seven year old boy came out of the shadows.
Said, "I'm sorry that it had to be him,
But your Daddy's a hero, he was my Dad's last victim."

Such a twist to the story line and so prophetic...in a way the reader is both sorry it happened and happy it became so positive to someone else who felt what was going on from a different perspective. very well written

The poem is flawless because it has two sides in it. You have described how daddy became a hero just with the beautiful last line. This is a superb write dear. I appriciate you for sharing this quality piece. Max ratings 5/5 all the way.

    With love
