People of the World

Dear people of the world
Please hear my plea
I'm a little girl
Who's barely even three

I live in a country
That's beautiful and green
We used to be ruled
By a nice king and queen

I had six brothers
Most who have died
My two remaining sisters
Were married off as brides

My father was a farmer
Who was killed last week
He was working when a mine
Exploded under his feet

My mother goes to the market
To beg for alms every morning
But she's haven't gone there lately
For she's still in mourning

People of the world
Please hear my cry
I'm a little girl
Who keeps wondering why

Some rebels came
And attacked out village
With angry men holding guns
They came and started to pillage

Most shot and murdered the men
While taking turns to rape the women
The children were tortured for fun
I even saw them hitting one

They stripped us bare from everything
There's no food or water at all
The flies with diseases they bring
Drives the medicine man up the wall

Last night my head was so hot
I felt that I couldn't sleep
Under the stars I tried but could not
Close my eyes as I'd simply weep

My friend died yesterday
His body lying upon the hay
There was blood coming out from his ears and nose
The elders say they are going to burn him - head to toes

My stomach is all bloated
With dirt my face is coated
I yearn for food daily
Somebody please come and save me

I hope you bother to even reply
The doctor says that I'm going to die
People of the world please know
I'm human too - not another freak show
