School Dance

She strolls onto the dance floor,
Her friends right by her side,
He sees her walking towards him,
His chest swells with pride.
But she walks right past him,
Laughter glistening in her eyes,
She's screaming, jumping, singing,
But all he can do is cry.
The happy songs and upbeat raps
Bring the party all so near,
All he wants is to be with her,
But she can't, she's full of fear.
So they move forever closer,
Locked in an eternal dance,
He keeps looking for a song,
Wanting, waiting, for a chance.
Suddenly, a song comes up,
The song they've both been waiting for.
He makes his way towards her,
Hoping for a dance, wanting so much more.
He taps her on the shoulder,
She turns around and gives a glance,
Then he asks her, oh so softly,
Will you give me just one dance?
She smiles and puts her arms around him,
As the music plays on loud,
He puts his hands around her waist,
And suddenly, he's floating on a cloud.
The music plays, he looks at her,
She looks so gorgeous in the dark,
But her eyes are watching him,
And he can read their last remark.
As he pulls her even closer,
He lays one hand behind her neck,
She moves her body towards him,
And she slowly tilts her head.
He touches her lips to hers,
And he feels her kiss him back,
You're beautiful, he said to her,
I love you so, and that's a fact.
She smiles, and he can see,
Happiness glowing in her eyes,
This wouldn't be their last dance,
As far as he could surmise.
He strokes her hair, so silky smooth,
And as the song comes to a close,
The end of the school yearâ??s first school dance,
The start of something so much more.
