The Heritage of Dixie

by Daisy if you do   Oct 26, 2006

A St. Andrews cross that bore thirteen stars
Pride and Heritage, written in memoirs
Hate and Venom is spewn at the cloth
True History of which you know not of
For the war, colored was just an excuse
For my ancestral heritage, I take abuse
A history lesson that you need to learn
If truths were known you'd have no concern
All colonies held slaves, not just the south
Still hatred comes forth, spit from your mouth
Glory given to Lincoln for the proclamation
For the flag that I bear I'm sent to damnation
He offered to keep slaves, no freedom to bear
If in the Southern tariffs the north got a share
Over 200 years by northern vessels they came
And still it's the south to who you blame
Under old Dixie, not a slave here was brought
For ignorant men, my ancestors fought?
Condemn not the grey for their pride and bravery
And own it all up to the freedom of slavery
Both colored and white men bore the grey uniform
Rebels we're called because we wouldn't conform
If by the flag, there's guilt by association
Why to stars and stripes is there no condemnation
I hope when I take my very last breath
Old Dixie will be draped cross my chest
Cause Rebel I will be....even in Death

**Please understand that I am not condoning slavery. It's wrong....period.
I am trying to convey that there were many reasons for the war and it should not be written off purely as slavery.**

Thank u for takeing a stand for the south and helping people realize that slavery was not the only reason for the war and that the south is not alone to blame. this subject could be a touchy one u did a excellent job of conveying what u think without hurting in one else my hat is off to u
