Goodbye

by gabriel   Oct 29, 2006

If I were given the chance
And you'd simply glance
Would you look me in the eye
And not simply say goodbye?

Maybe you could smile
And stay here for a while
But your heart would say, "No"
"Someday I'll have to go"

I could serve you night and day
But whatever that comes our way
Would easily take you along
Before I know you're gone

Each moonlit night I would bow
Clasping my hand with the other
Saying a silent prayer
Even though we're no longer together

I watch the jet-black sky
Littered with crusted stars
Constantly wondering why
You are so very far

I stroll along the coastal sand
While the waves laps up the shore
I make-believe but I can't pretend
That you're here no more

Through the shrub-covered path I make my way
Home while awaiting the break of day
A few hours for my tears to dry
Tears that have never said goodbye
