Hummingbird's First Flight

by Twisted Heart   Oct 31, 2006

The little bird upon the branch
spread her wings and took her chance
She caught the whisper of the wind
With flapping wings her flight began.

Up in the sky she flew beside
The puffy clouds that wandered by
And felt the kiss of summer's breeze
With other birds for company.

She soared above the meadow green
She bent the flowers so serene
Dipping down to touch each bud
With dew upon her lovely wings.

She circled round, there in the sky
Heading home, from her flight
To the tree where mother waited
for little bird to come in sight.

Up to the nest set on a branch
She dived without a second glance
Landing with such graceful ease
Inside the leaved adorning tree.

I liked the poem. It had great imagery. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that your rhyme scheme changed by like the 3rd to last stanza. It just threw me off. Jpoet*
