Walk the Street

Walk The Streets
This one I had already submitted, but I redid it for a school assignment...tell me what you think.

Do you feel safe at night
when you walk the darkened streets?
Do you watch for a friendly face?
Or look blindly at your feet?

A blank expression on a face
Is everywhere you go
but, for a moment fiery eyes meet
And fear begins to grow.

They say we are Australian,
We are one, we are united,
What has happened to this country?
We are a nation much divided.

As hearts begin to break,
and blood is being spilled,
the sons and fathers of the innocent,
a life now not fulfilled.

Did you see the war begin
hear the sounds of blood and death?
Did you see the blackness win
As you take a shuddered breath?

My friend a life now over;
peopleâ??s hearts turned down no more.
Can you hear the cries of loss?
Screaming at your door?

Do people actually believe,
that war will bring the peace?
Itâ??s hard to think not long ago
it was safe to walk our streets.
