Empty words

The letters appear in the computer screen
as my fingers quickly tap the keys
to spell out words, that hold no meaning
at one time these words i used to be screaming

how can words be so important
why do they leave such a sting
reading the ink on paper, i wonder
if words really have any meaning

people die and tears fall, homes are broken
b/c of a phone call
evil lurks, things are wrote, society suffers
b/c of what is found in a note

conversation leads to confrontation
hateful words like hell, causing deaths of oneself
why do that our minds construct only destroy?
our senseless ideas spoken in words, yet we think we are so coy

words are simple nothings from a person's lips
mindless, pointless, syllables,
they don't deserve their given worth

words break hearts and shatter dreams
they can be cruel and heartless, cold and mean

and now as these words appear on my screen
i ponder if words mean ANYTHING
