Shield

by bec   Nov 4, 2006

A heavy weight, a sliver gleam
a shadow for my heart
When fighting hard we dare the dreams
attack with timeless art

My shoulders ache, I've bloody hands,
But still I hold on tight
I'll never waver, despite demands
It blocks an arrow's plight

And yet when dark stops falling
When friends replace the foe
Though heartfelt hugs come calling
I cannot let it go

I'm hiding here, beneath my shield
I will not hurt, I will not yield
