Daddy's Little Girl

"Tell me a story Daddy?"
"Amber Rose, you know it's past bedtime!"
But she climbed into his lap anyway
With Amber, Daddy has no spine...
She cuddled up so sweetly
Slid her little arm around his side,
As I stood watching from the hallway
Heart full of love and pride.
"Once upon a time" he began,\"Lived a girl named Amber Rose..."
But, as little girls often do, she interrupted,
"Daddy, do you suppose.."
"That someday when I'm big
I'll marry someone just like you\"
Her gaze never wavered,
Innocent blue eyes locked with loving blue.
"You're so nice to mommy,
And you never make her sad."
"I hear her tell you all the time,
Could you, just once, make me really mad!"
Daddy laughed and leaned down then
And kissed Amber's soft brown curls,
And from the hallway I heard him murmer,
"Thank God for little girls."
He replied to her "I was lucky to find your mommy,
But sometimes, honey, we do still fight"
"There's no harm at all in that,
As long as we make it right."
He tapped her nose playfully,
Said, "What your mommy and I have is true"
"If it weren't for both of US
There would be no little YOU!"
"Why Daddy, How come?" she asked
But he said, "Bedtime now, let's not put up a fight"
"We will save that chat for now,
Until your older, some other night."
(sigh) "Ok, Daddy but will you tuck me in my bed?"
And as he carried her down the hall
Onto his shoulder went her sleepy head.
My heart was overflowing,
I couldn't have asked for more from this life,
Than to be the mommy of this precious little girl
And the sweetest man in the world's wife.
