And What If?

If I was upset for a cause unknown,
And cried for no reason at all,
Would you have something kind to say?
Or just sit and watch my tears fall?

Would you lend a consoling arm?
Or quite possibly an ear?
And even if I was to explain,
Would you hear what I wanted you to hear?

And what if you didn't know what to say?
If with it, you couldn't deal?
I'd probably say, 'Welcome to my life!!',
I know exactly how you feel.

And what if I said I didn't want to tell,
Why I was so upset?
I'd see that familiar look on your face,
Curiosity would kill you, I bet.

But what if I told you the real reason why...
No, I couldn't see you in pain.
I love you, and for that reason only,
I'm afraid I just can't say.
