One White Lie

by Jenni Marie   Nov 6, 2006

She used to always tell the truth
She would never tell a lie
But now it seems all she does
Is constantly lie and lie.

She used to hate liars
From all the lies she heard she would tire.

But then she told one small lie
And she made people cry
And because of her lie
friends waved goodbye.

She started to lie more and more
The pain slowly eased at her core
The lies got easier to tell
And she slowly headed to hell.

But she kept on lying
Not realizing that people were crying

Now no one knows what's lies and what's true
Not even her
Because of those lies
She's lost the people who cared.

The lies got bigger
and easier to tell
Who would have known
She would lie so well?

Into each conversation
She inadvertently slipped in a lie

She didn't realize
She was causing her soul to die.

Now she wonders what
Possessed her to lie
And each day she will
Sit there and cry.

She wishes she could go back in time
And erase those untruthful lines
She wishes she had made the right choice
And had listened to her inner voice.

She wishes she could rectify things
But the situation is dire
Because she has been
Branded as a liar.

And now she spends every day
Trying to be true
But sometimes she just
Doesn't know what to do.

She keeps trying to atone
For her mistakes
But she just doesn't know
How much more she can take.

Because she can see
The mistrust in people's eyes
Wondering if she's still
Telling spiteful lies.

She doesn't know
If she'll ever earn their trust back
Because honesty was
What she lacked.

She started of with a little white lie
But now her lies are causing her strife
All of them combined
Are destroying her life.

She's made everyone
Including herself cry
Isn't it amusing to think
This started as ONE tiny lie?

Her soul is burning, on fire
She's forever branded...a liar.
