Thirst

by alone and above   Nov 9, 2006

The rain on my shoulders
The bottle of water in my hand
The sweat on my brow
And the tears on my cheeks
Will not quench my thirst for you
You make me a desert
Sucked the moisture from my lungs
Cracked the skin on my lips
Left cotton in my mouth
Wrapped in a sandpaper tongue
The rain on my shoulders
The bottle of water in my hand
The sweat on my brow
And the tears on my cheeks
Will not quench my thirst for you
My throat still aches
It rumbles a low rasp
Trying to swallow dry air
With tongue stuck to the roof
Struggling just to speak
The rain on my shoulders
The bottle of water in my hand
The sweat on my brow
And the tears on my cheeks
Will not quench my thirst for you
You are the oasis
Washing dirt from my body
Bringing my eyes into focus
Restoring energy to my soul
Quenching my infinite thirst
