Rust

by alone and above   Nov 9, 2006

The rain pours down while I lie waiting
The dust clings to my sides
Air flies past and leaves me oxygen
All I can do is inhale
Seasons pass
And the weather changes
I remain still
Unchanged, yet changing
The heat from the sun dries out my skin
It burns and cracks and peels
Purple sunset pierces the clouds
Cool night air removes edge
Seasons pass
And the weather changes
I remain focused
Concentrated and straining
Sepia tones and candlelight flicker
Shadows stretched across the street
Broken leaves and fallen trees
Lying down around my feet
Seasons pass
And the weather changes
I remain here
Unphased and aging
Sharp wind cutting through my eyes
Makes me cry for no real reason
Salt and sand turn my paint to rust
Here is where I'll lie sleeping
